Most of the time rap albums rant and rave about the fame of the game, the lap of luxury, and blunts and hoes. But once in a while an album comes along that makes you feel great unease at the current state of everything.
It looks like in 2012, that album is going to be Myke Murder's "Sheeple". Sheeple is a 16 track rap fury, with instrumental backdrops set by beat makers from around the United States, along with a handful of productions from Mr. Murder(corp) as well.
Sheeple sets the “murder-corporate” atmosphere quickly, taking the listener on a journey through the capitalistic entity known as America. Myke (no stranger to the scene) appears as a reluctant set of eyes to the neighborhood watch, so to speak, carefully reporting the tragedies of reality as they unfold.
Inside the message of desperation for the future, is a beacon of hope. Myke reminds listeners that they are not alone in this battle, and that together we have strength. As you listen through, you find that as with everything, there is a balance to the madness.
As we’ve come to expect from MURDERCORP.© products, many tracks like “$laves”, “Rise Up”, and “G.O.D. (Gold, Oil, Drugs)” speak heavily on the current declining state of the nation, as well as the uneducation of youth, and political propaganda.
This is in high contrast to songs such as “Copycat”, “Watch Ur Mouth” and “FRESHTILDEVTH” which cleverly (and often satirically) take stabs at other current affairs and recent emcees.
However it’s not all just politics and professional punk-ing…Songs like “Release’’,“Black Mirror”, and “Project Shadow” show a more personal, emotional side of Myke that is often overshadowed by his intense political imagery.
Other tracks like “Vandals & Hooligans”, “Quiet Weapons”, “Illusions”, and “American Nightmare” are in classes all of their own. Creating an entirely new school of thought and music for growing revolutionaries, Murder takes head of the ranks.
If there’s one thing this album definitely doesn’t lack, its diverse styles and a meaningful message. Isn’t this what we’ve been asking for in music since the likes of Gaga and Beiber?
All this comes neatly dressed in a suit and tie, smiling, and ready to shake your hand.
MURDERCORP.© is growing.
